One for my baby is a project from singer Dirk Van Halewyck, pianist Jacinto Rodriguez and saxophonist Jorge García based in
Salobreña – Motril (Andalusia) Spain.
The band is modular to fit different venues and budgets: from trio up to octet (drums, bass, piano, guitar andhorns: trumpet, sax alto,
sax tenor and voice) as the full band.
We start from the Jazz standards over Latin to pop, soul and funk (depending on venue and preference of the organizer or public).
The songs are always interpreted in our own style and the original arrangements for the horns aredone by Peter Vandendriessche and contribute a great deal to the sound of the band.
We play in public and private places for different occasions like concerts, jazz dinners, receptions, weddings… Our goal is always to entertain the public and give them a night to remember.
All the musicians in the band are professionals to maintain a high level of performance in any combination.
The lyrics are mostly in English but we also do songs in Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian) and French. Special requests (for weddings, for example) are possible and are best done beforehand.
The different modular formulas:
Trio: Synth (piano), sax and voice. The Tyros gives us the opportunity to create a full sound (drums and bass combined with piano) even with only three musicians.
Quintet: drums, double bass, piano, sax and voice gives a richer and more flexible sound .
Sextet : drums, doublebass, piano, sax, trumpet and voice gives the opportunity of polyphone horns. An alternative option is here sax and guitar…
Octet: drums, (double) bass, piano, guitar, sax alto, sax tenor, trumpet and voice; now we have the full sound of the 3 voices in the horns which gives us plenty colors.
Extra option here is the trombone to come even closer to a big band sound, but also very effective for soul and funk.
